Wells Fargo Stagecoach Visits Earth Day Contest Winner!

The work of six Cloverleaf Elementary fourth graders earned hundreds of students at the school rides in the Wells Fargo stagecoach Thursday.
The six students, all from teacher Darcy Kline’s classroom, participated in a Go-Green Initiative contest sponsored by Glogster EDU. The contest asked students to make a presentation using video, audio and text on either the water, food or energy systems in their local communities.
Cloverleaf students chose the water system of Iredell County and learned how the water in the Catawba River makes its way into the faucets of Statesville city residents.
There were more than 1,500 entries to the contest and only 27 schools were awarded the stagecoach rides. Denise Harris, the science lab teacher at Cloverleaf who worked with Kline’s class, said the students at the school were “top-notch” and she knew their work would reflect that.
“You’re always surprised when you win,” said Harris. “But these kids work with a lot of technology in the classrooms. They’re used to using the web tools.”
The students – Ja’Kayla Miller, Madison Bunton, Courtney Elledge, Ezra Kinsch, Jaden Moore and Ben Hites – said they were excited when they found out they’d won the horse-and-carriage rides.
“We were jumping up and down,” said Ja’Kayla. “We got in trouble.”
Around 250 Cloverleaf students were treated to a ride around the school’s parking lot in the stagecoach. Staff at the school decided to award the children who had earned Honor Roll status from good grades during the entire year. The students who won the contest said their teacher was mostly to thank.
“If it wasn’t for (Kline), we wouldn’t get to have this,” said Madison.
