Derek W. Veenhof

Derek W Veenhof currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Modern Corporation, a privately held fully integrated waste and environmental services company of approximately 700 employees that provides essential waste collection, recycling, and disposal services for communities and businesses in western New York and Southern Ontario. Prior to joining Modern, Mr. Veenhof had served for 25 years at Covanta Holdings in various roles including Executive Vice President of Asset Management and Chief Operating Officer. Covanta Holdings was a NYSE publicly traded global waste to energy services provider with revenues of more than $2B annually. Covanta was taken private by EQT Infrastructure in 2021, and Mr. Veenhof stayed through a transition period until fall of 2022 Covanta has since been subsequently renamed as ReWorld Waste.

Throughout his career, Mr. Veenhof has championed sustainability and community outreach initiatives as essential parts of being in the public/private sector interface of the environmental services industry. In addition to leading Covanta’s community outreach program, Mr. Veenhof also chaired Covanta’s diversity, equity and inclusion committee and was instrumental in the formation of employee outreach groups that are still functioning today. Mr. Veenhof currently serves as a Board Director for the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF), a non-profit foundation focused on research and educational activities important to the waste industry.

Mr. Veenhof holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.
