Tennyson High School Shares Recipe for Success at NCRA School Committee Webinar

The next Northern California Recycling Association Schools Committee webinar will be extra special! Our favorite students and teachers at Tennyson High School in Hayward Unified School District will be presenting on how they’re helping their district to take action on waste-related greenhouse gas emissions.

Join us this Thursday, September 15, at 3:30pm to learn how they kickstarted their Green Team and took action! With a special focus on high school Green Teams, this webinar will feature speakers from across the state sharing how they get students involved with waste reduction and diversion at school. Register for free online here!

Tennyson High School launched their Green Team in early 2022 and in just a few short months, these amazing students and teachers have an impressive list of achievements. The Go Green Initiative is proud to have supported the team to:

  • Educate themselves about SB 1383 and the climate laws to which their school and district are subject
  • Conduct and bin-ventory and waste audit to collect data and assess infrastructure needs
  • Present their findings to the School Board
  • Meet with the City of Hayward about their community’s Climate Action Plan
  • Develop a plan to educate their campus community to properly recycle, compost, and recover edible food

Mallory McGoff, GGI Project and Operations Manager, shares that the work of Tennyson’s Green Team

“encouraged their district administration to take action district-wide in collaboration with the Go Green Initiative. The GGI has an ongoing partnership with Hayward Unified and the District team was thrilled to see Tennyson’s passion and initiative on an program they’ve been planning with us since before the pandemic. Together, we’re working to assess infrastructure needs district-wide, purchase supplies, and form and train green teams at each campus, and the work of these impressive students and teachers has provided wonderful momentum and inspiration.”

We send our congratulations to Tennyson High School for all their hard work over the past few months, and look forward to our continued partnership!
