Livermore School District Tackles Waste, Saving $3,000 Monthly!
At the Go Green Initiative, we believe environmental work at school not only benefits students, staff, community, and planet–it also makes operational sense! That’s why we’re excited to celebrate a story of waste-related cost saving out of Livermore, California.
With the dedication of forward-thinking administrators, our client Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District has achieved $3,000 in monthly savings by optimizing their waste hauling service!
Meeting California’s Waste Goals
California requires schools to recycle, compost, and recover edible food, with state laws that target greenhouse gas emissions. As a host community of a major San Francisco Bay Area landfill, the Livermore community experiences the impact of waste.
Livermore Valley Joint School District has committed to reducing waste and recovering edible food and sought our support to build and centralize a compliance program. Together, we’re developing a waste reduction and diversion program that will reduce environmental impacts from waste and has already resulted in operational benefits to the district.
Identifying Opportunities, Delivering Results
Among other steps in our partnership, the GGI conducted an evaluation of the district’s hauling needs. Together with the support of their hauler Livermore Sanitation, District administrators put the results of this evaluation into action to secure savings!
The combined efforts of this project yielded results that will benefit the school district and community for years to come:
- Financial savings: Livermore schools are now saving over $3,000 per month on waste—cost savings that can be reinvested into educational programs or other needs.
- Foundations for waste reduction success: ensuring all their facilities have optimized hauling service represents a key milestone in the effort to prevent and reduce waste.
